It is the latest you can start a wash and still finish before the doors close. If you work late in Malden, an 8:30 PM last load can sneak up on you, so plan accordingly or use one of the midnight stores.

Three Ways to Use Neptune

Before picking a store, decide how you want your laundry done. Neptune offers three distinct options, and they suit very different people.

- Self-service. You wash your own laundry on our machines, and the dryers are always free. Large 90 lb and 130 lb washers handle comforters and big family loads in one go. There is free Wi-Fi, vending, arcade games, table space for folding, and cards are accepted. If you have a queen comforter, a stack of bath towels and a week of clothes, the big machines can save you two or three separate washes.

- Counter drop-off wash and fold. Bring your laundry to the counter, and staff wash, dry and fold it for $1.50 per pound. Counter drop-off has no minimum weight, which makes it a practical option for small loads. Call the store you plan to visit to confirm drop-off details before you go.

- Pickup and delivery. Operated from the 489 Saratoga Street store, this is the option where you never visit at all. Schedule a day and time online or in the app, leave your laundry at the door in any bag, and it comes back professionally folded, usually within 24 to 48 hours. It costs $2.00 per pound one-time or $1.85 per pound recurring when you order twice a month, with a 19 lb minimum ($38) per order.

How to Choose the Right Store

For self-service and drop-off, the closest store is usually the right one, but a few details can tip the decision:

- You live in East Boston. You have two stores: Saratoga Street and Bennington Street. Both keep midnight hours. Saratoga is also home base for pickup and delivery, so questions about pickup orders go there.

- You live on the North Shore. The Lynn store on Western Avenue serves Lynn and nearby towns with late hours, and the Revere store on the VFW Parkway is the natural pick for Revere residents.

- You live in or near Malden. The Broadway store is the closest option, but remember the earlier close: last load at 8:30 PM.

- You do laundry late. Any of the four midnight stores lets you start a load as late as 10:15 PM.

- You do laundry early. Every store opens at 5:30 AM. On Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 5:30 to 9:30 AM, Happy Hour takes up to $2.00 off select washers at all five stores. If your schedule allows a weekday morning wash, it is the cheapest time to use the self-service machines.

It also helps to compare the two full-service options honestly. A 20 lb load costs $30 at counter drop-off and $40 through pickup and delivery. The $10 difference is what you pay for not making two trips, one to drop off and one to collect. If a store is around the corner, drop-off can be the better deal. If the nearest store is a drive or a bus ride away, or you would have to carry bags with kids in tow, pickup usually earns its price quickly.

Bulky items are another deciding factor. Washing a comforter yourself in a 90 lb or 130 lb machine, then drying it for free, is the lowest-cost route. Through pickup, comforters are charged per item in addition to the weight: $18 regular, $20 queen, $22 king, $30 down and $35 oversized or XL.

Inside the Pickup Area? You May Not Need a Store at All

Pickup and delivery covers a wider area than the five store addresses suggest. In Boston it includes East Boston, Charlestown, the North End, Beacon Hill, the West End, downtown, the Seaport, Back Bay, Fenway and South Boston. Beyond the city it covers Cambridge, Chelsea, Everett, Malden, Medford, Melrose, Lynn, Lynnfield, Revere, Saugus, Stoneham, Wakefield and Winthrop.

If you live in one of those places, the store nearest you matters much less. You never carry a basket, never wait for a machine and never fold. There is no sorting, no counting and no labels on your end, and no forced subscription: you pay per order. Scheduled pickups carry no delivery fee. On-demand orders delivered through Uber do carry a delivery fee that varies by order, so booking ahead is the cheaper habit.

To put the cost in perspective, a 25 lb order is $50 at the one-time rate, and a 30 lb order is $60 one-time or $55.50 recurring. New customers can take $20 off the first order with code FIRST20. For many households, that compares well with an evening spent at a machine, and our pickup and delivery page has the details.

A Quick Way to Decide

If you enjoy doing your own laundry, have big items to wash or want free drying, pick the self-service store closest to you and check the last-load time. If you want someone else to do the washing but do not mind a short trip, counter drop-off at $1.50 per pound is the budget-friendly middle ground. If you are inside the pickup area and your time matters more than the trip, schedule a pickup and skip the store entirely.

Whichever you choose, the same family-run team is behind it. Any of the five stores can answer questions by phone, and the Saratoga Street store at (617) 567-1839 handles everything related to pickup and delivery.

Pricing Notice: Rates and prices mentioned in this article are for informational purposes and are subject to change.

|
